Why blog?
April 28, 2006 Aha! This post at Webjunction led me to this post at NewlyMintedLibrarian which took me to the Boston Globe’s article on how blogging can help your career:
- Blogging creates a network.
- Blogging can get you a job.
- Blogging is great training.
- Blogging helps you move up quickly.
- Blogging makes self-employment easier.
- Blogging provides more opportunities.
- Blogging could be your big break.
- Blogging makes the world a better place.
Of course, they did leave out my favorite: Blogging (on professional topics, rather than just personal blatherings) forces you to keep current on the important issues in your field!
Addendum: found via Libraryola, Walt Crawford’s excellent article on blog vs book writing.

I wish to thank you for teaching us about blogs. I'm not sure that I like them as I think they can pose a potential danger for students who use them outside the safe school environment. I will continue to explore the issue of blogs and perhaps I'll become comfortable with them some time in the future. Hope you enjoyed your visit to Denali and that you saw lots of animals. I hope I've placed my comment in the proper place on your blog (if not please let me know). I do like the reasons you listed for blogging, but am still not sure I like them. Have a great trip home.
Thank you, Deborah
